Cabinet has approved the first draft budget proposals for 2020/21

Cabinet has approved the first draft budget proposals for 2020/21. The spending proposals are now open for a six week public consultation and can be viewed at; http://meetings.fdean.gov.uk/documents/s24194/F.458%20First%20Draft%20Budgets%202020-2021%20cab%20191219.pdf

The Forest of Dean District Council is preparing for another difficult financial year, against a background of declining government funding for local councils and rising costs combined with uncertainty as the draft funding settlement information for 2020-2021 has not yet been made available.

The proposed budget for 2020/21 includes:

·         A proposed council tax increase for the services provided by Forest of Dean District Council of £184.03 (a £5 increase which equates to 2.8% based on a Band D property. This is a rise of less than 10p per week);

·         The draft budget includes savings and additional income of £639,000;

·         The Council has restricted increases in costs to the minimum with growth only proposed where it is essential or required by legislation.

Public consultation:

On 13 January 2020 at 5pm there will be a Public Budget Consultation Event at Forest of Dean District Council to discuss the Council’s draft budget. A presentation of the document will take place followed by a discussion session. The Cabinet are keen to hear people’s views and suggestions on the budget going forward.

Cllr Bernie O’Neill, Cabinet Member for Finance says: “This event will be held close to the culmination of our 6 week consultation period. This is an opportunity for the Cabinet to present its draft budget to members of the public. We hope that residents will be able to attend to allow their opinions and views on the budget to be considered.”
